Make Healthy Choices to Help Prevent Cancer

What you eat and how much you exercise doesn’t affect just your waistline. It also can help prevent cancer.

More than 80 percent of Pennsylvanians correctly said that diet plays a role in preventing some forms of cancer in a Patient Poll conducted by the Pennsylvania Medical Society’s Institute for Good Medicine.

But there’s evidence that many aren’t applying this knowledge to their daily lives. Nearly 200,000 of the expected cancer deaths in 2008 will be related to poor diet, physical inactivity, or weight, the American Cancer Society reported.

The American Cancer Society offers many resources to help you eat right through its Great American Eat Right Challenge. Resources include a virtual dietitian, who will help you get tips on preparing quick and healthy meals, a portion control guide, a food diary, and a healthy grocery list.
